Mecha Emperor is an Epic Phantom.

After the tragedy of the Ying Clan, the Mech City in the north has gradually been forgotten until the return of the "princess" who takes over the city. This is indeed big news for the Mech City in recent years, but it's not the only one.
Compared with the "princess", the descendant of the Yings, the person who shows up together with the "princess" has been put in the limelight. Nobody knows where he comes from, nor what his name is. The only know that the "princess" calls him Master Mu. Although after a tumultuous period, the Mech City has lost its former glory, there are still many old citizens witnessed the return of the "princess". They know who the Master Mu is, so they're more astonished by his appearance than others.
Master Mu is an outcast of the Yings. The man who got expelled from the city by the Yings has now become the right-hand man of the "princess", helping her to revitalize the Mech City. And all the people related to the Yings have tacitly allowed this. Just like the saying goes, "A centipede dies but never falls down."
Even though the once influential Yings has declined, they'd never put their pride aside and rely on an outcast to regain their power. Everyone believes that there much be something fishy going on, but they can't pinpoint it.

Master Mu doesn't try to hide his past, because people who know too much are still alive. Or maybe he just doesn't care?
There are rumors and small talk going around. I managed to piece together his past from fragments of truths and lies. he was a disciple of the Ying Clan, obsessed with the art of Autotech, but was expelled five years before the Yings' downfall. Once theory is that he made a critical mistake in an experiment. Another proposed that the Yings foresaw what's coming and got him to safety in time.
The latter was so detailed, complete with a report about seeing him at Mech City just when the Yings faced their doom. That, plus the fact that the Ying "Princess" did get out, the second version was widely accepted as a hard fact. They believe Master Mu took the heir of the Yings away, waiting for the day to revive the clan and Mech City. Hence no one ever had any issue with him being so close to the Princess. They didn't suspect the fact might possibly be fabricated. because that is what it is. Fabrication.

People dig into things of the past, to quell curiosity. Curiosity was exactly what changed Master Mu's fate, turning it upside down.
He left not because of some failed experiment, or the disgraced princess. The truth is that his research tapped into a domain beyond the Yings' knowledge. The Yings feared what he tried to find out, yet they were curious about it, too.
So, they made a deal. Master Mu was to be publicly expelled, but secretly supported by the Yings for his research. He spent five years in a secret lab, until the Yings were eradicated, and their matron missing.
Now he's returning, again, for two purposes. The real intention is about to be exposed...
