Once, there was a girl who admired Jian Xuan asked someone to send a letter to him. In the letter, she mentioned that she once met Jian Xuan by pure chance, and that the moment she saw his white figure from a distance, she felt all the negative emotions in her heart were swept away, leaving her the warm spring breeze and the fragrance of flowers. She believed that Jian Xuan would never be engulfed by darkness because he is the sunshine that pierces through blood and hatred.
Soul and Zuo Shang studied this letter for a long time, then both of them agreed that this girl's comment couldn't be more accurate - this is indeed the Jian Xuan who they grew up together with. The empty-handed Jian Xuan could only smile helplessly. He knew what they were going to say next. So before they had the chance to ask him to meet that girl, Jian Xuan took out the wine he specially brought to them.

Waves of Sha-Chi surged in Jian Xuan, unleashing primordial urges from the shackles of reason. So, he was to end up as a killing machine. Between confrontation and simply giving up, he faced the urge to kill.
Memories about the day his family was killed came back rushing. He saw himself standing among the carnage. Do you want revenge, boy? The Nether Lord asked. No. Death is death. Revenge won't change a thing. He didn't give in then, and he wouldn't give in now.

A basic instinct is something so deeply buried in your nature that it's an integral of you. It could be suppressed for a while, but eventually your conscious mind will slip, then it will prevail over reason.
Jian Xuan was trapped in this endless darkness. His mind was about to buckle under the impact of surging Sha-Chi. So, there came the moment, when he raised his sword towards Soul. And right at that moment, reason suppressed the urge to kill for one last time. He knew too well that being a victim of Sha-Chi Mod, his only destiny was being a killing machine.
Hence he decided to put his own life to an end. Hey, isn't that the best man for the job? Jian Xuan's was a happy death, a relief from his ruined life. "Soul. "Thank you, my friend."
